Voices of the Children, Radio Tongu 92.1FM – Ghana

Beatrice and Thomas are children from the island of Awadice-Kome on the river Volta in Ghana. They are concerned that their community has been neglected for far too long, no electricity, no toilet facilities and no proper canoes for the secondary school children to cross the river safely.
They are trained by the community based organisation ToYace to produce and present radio programmes on the local Radio Tongu 92.1 FM. The programmes are in the local language Tongu. The children have found a powerful voice to promote the development of their community with local leaders and community members.

Shot in Ghana, this film is part of a series of 11 stories of change in good governance through the Mwananchi Project . This ODI project, funded by DFID, works to strengthen citizen engagement with governments across six African countries (Ethiopia, Ghana, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Uganda and Zambia).
The project is managed in Ghana by PDA Ghana, www.pdaghana.com
